About Us

What makes Solel Preschool the best in the Valley?
Our Philosophy

The Solel Preschool provides a structured learning environment based on the goals of Reform Judaism and developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood education.

Our Staff

The Solel Preschool staff is a group of experienced, educated teachers who love children. They are CPR and First Aid Certified, have passed DPS background checks, and engage in regular professional learning experiences.

Our Curriculum

We foster developmentally appropriate independence in children and use positive reinforcement techniques of guidance including redirection, anticipation and elimination of potential problems, and encouragement.

The Solel Preschool school year loosely echoes the Scottsdale Unified School District schedule, running from mid-August through mid-May. Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer Break Camps are also available (additional tuition required).

Mary Ann Bloom
Mary Ann Bloom
Assistant Director
Mary Ann Bloom is the “cool aunt” to the young moms and dads who entrust their children to our care each day. She knows what is happening in your life, keeps you informed about all of the wonderful activities at the preschool and will invariably have a warm and memorable story to tell you about your child. Most of all, Mary Ann makes you feel happy and thrilled to be part of our Solel Preschool community.
Sonya Placencia

Sonya Placencia joined The Solel Preschool staff in December of 2014, bringing 10 years of childcare and preschool experience. Whether she is helping manage the office, handling finances within the preschool, or finding time to step into classrooms to lend a helping hand, Sonya is dedicated to the families and staff at The Solel Preschool. Sonya is a native Arizonan, and enjoys spending time with her daughter, Alice, and her husband, Chris, as well as traveling, both nationally and abroad.

Kathleen is an Arizona native who has been part of the Solel Community for many years. She worked as a camp counselor at Solel during her time in high school before heading to Tuscon to earn a degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Arizona. (She is a proud Wildcat!) After graduating she began a full time teaching position at The Solel Preschool teaching Pre-K. After two years she spent time in Costa Rica as well as various cities around Europe. When she returned she returned to Solel stepping into the Education Assistant position. In addition to her teaching a Pre-K class, she maintains the Preschool weekly newsletters, helps coordinate our preschool events, and assists with any projects the Directors need her to work on.
Karen Aland
Karen Aland
Camp Director
Karen Aland, who hails from Alabama and loves the Crimson Tide, got her Bachelor of Science degree at Boston University in Early Childhood Education. Karen happily moved with her family in the late nineties to the warmer climate of Arizona and began teacher elementary school. She joined our Solel Preschool team and she has been a Pre-K teacher and Camp Director here since 2005. The last two years have been extra special for Karen as her grandson is a student here and she gets such joy from seeing him daily and singing with him at Shabbat on Friday mornings.

Many options to meet your needs!

The Solel Preschool

The Solel Preschool offers programming for infants (6 weeks of age) through Pre-K (5 years of age) following a traditional school year calendar. Our program offers flexibility in scheduling in order to meet your needs.
